The first week of December has been all about Belsnickles, Christmas cookies, and waiting for grandchild #4 to arrive – and a full house of guests enjoying the beautiful decorations at the Inn. We’ve been busy, but let’s catch up a little bit.
First things first. Grahm and Nicole are anticipating the arrival of their fourth child this December 8. You know how it is with babies, though. They come when they’re ready, and I’ve been on pins and needles waiting for the call. And at this point, the baby either 1.) doesn’t have a name, or 2.) they’re not telling me his name. I’m guessing it’s the second one. As a former teacher of 24 years, I’ve met a lot of kids. You might guess that every name has a story, and well, I’ve been very generous about sharing my comments. Guess we’ll find out soon!
Next, do you know what a Belsnickle is? He’s kind of a Pennsylvania Dutch Santa who give nice kids cakes and beats the bad kids. Stop in at Landis Valley Museum to find out more and see a cute video of how the Belsnickle starts his day.
But all that aside, we were part of the”Find Your Belsnickle” tour hosted by Authentic Bed and Breakfast Inns of Lancaster County the first weekend in December. You probably saw an earlier post – the price of your ticket got you in to 17 different Inns all decked out for the holidays. You got to eat cookies, get recipes, find your Belsnickle and enter drawings for prizes. Mark your calendar for next year. We’ve already gotten reservations for December 2018!
The cookies we offered on the tour were our award-winning Apple Tart Bites. They are featured in this month’s Susquehanna Style Magazine. You can get my recipe and the two other featured recipes here with their online edition. Super easy and very elegant. I like to sprinkle them with a little powdered sugar just before serving. Your friends and family will think you’ve baked your head off.
One last thing before I scurry off to finish the next thing on the list. Be on the lookout for our Name That Christmas Tree Contest where you can win a $100 gift certificate to Olde Square Inn. Each room at the Inn has a decorated tree, and your job will be to match the decorated tree with the room in which you think it belongs. I’ll be posting that soon!
If you’re looking for a great present, the gift of time away is welcome by everyone. You can purchase online, and we can snail mail or email your gift certificate in time for Christmas. In the meantime, enjoy your holiday decorating, baking and shopping!
